“I’m too busy to discuss your program about being less busy.”
It’s a comment I get on a semi-regular basis. In fact, last week, an executive took the time to apply for our Productivity Superhero Accelerator, but when we reached out to him to set up a call he told me that his kids and his work, he was just too busy, and might get back to me in a week.
If you’re too busy and unproductive to discuss a program that will make you less busy and more productive, it’s a sign you need that program.
This is what happens when you allow yourself to become a member of the “Victim Society.”
It’s easy to blame external circumstances, to make excuses, and to think, “Busy is just something that happens to me.” That kind of mindset is a convenient way to exonerate you from the impact of the deliberate choices you make each day.
Believe it or not, busy is a choice.
It’s also a choice to decide to set key outcomes for each and every day.
It’s a choice when you learn to say “no” to those time wasters that take you off the straightest path to your outcomes.
I don’t write this as someone who doesn’t practice what I preach. At one point, I was running three profitable businesses, while maintaining weekly dates with my wife, helping homeschool our four kids, getting in the best shape of my life – all while working 12 hours per week.
It is possible. But it requires you to be intentional.
There are two types of people in this world: Those who apathetically accept what life throws at them, and those who internationally decide to impose their will on life.
To be truly productive, you have to be the latter.
You have to live what I call a Radically Outcomes-Focused life, in which you reverse engineer your life vision to create key outcomes for every year/month/week/day – and then find and travel the shortest, straightest, simplest route to those outcomes.
Are you ready to be intentional? To stop being “busy” and start being truly productive?
